Nadia Petra(roja) has lived a double musical life as a Canadian children’s entertainer
in the mid 1980’s, and more recently as a jazz singer. As a children’s performer,
she’s toured Canada, the United States, and Singapore and has two nationally acclaimed
albums to her credit. Perhaps it is her experience performing for young people that
makes her such a warm and accessible jazz singer. Nadia has also been noted for the
emotional truth she uncovers in the lyrics of the jazz standards, and for the honesty
of her vocal delivery.
Nadia has studied with renowned jazz arranger and vocal coach Phil Mattson and performed
with the Toronto based vocal jazz choir OASIS as a soloist and alto singer. She was
recently a guest artist with The Big Easy Swing Band and has been a featured performer
at The Rex Hotel Jazz and Bar Grill, C’est What, and the Mezzetta Café Restaurant Jazz
Series. Nadia is becoming familiar to a wider Ontario audience with main stage appearances
at Trinity St. Paul’s Vocal Series, Mississauga Living Arts Centre, the Port Hope Jazz
Festival and the Waterfront Festival in Cobourg, Ontario. Nadia is a versatile jazz
artist equally at home in an intimate setting as a duo, or with her trio.
